In lieu of the recent drought that our region and community are experiencing, Upper Merion Township Department of Public Safety would like to remind all residents that open burning of leaf waste is prohibited under the Township Code 91-4 C (2). By definition Leaf Waste is Leaves, garden residues, shrubbery, tree trimmings and similar materials, but not including grass clippings per Township Ordinance. Furthermore, “Open Burning” is also prohibited under the Township’s adoption of International Fire Code unless authorized by the fire code official. The intent of the code is to protect the public from irresponsible burning when it endangers the safety, health or welfare of persons near the burn site. This regulation has restrictions for recreational and bon fires but does not restrict the use of portable outdoor fireplaces, fireplaces connected to the building, and outdoor cooking equipment. Upper Merion Township Public Safety Department would like to encourage all residents to be mindful of fire safety. |
